In todays video we are going to take you inside one of americas first enclosed shopping malls that closed back in early 2021. Richmond Town Square Mall is an abandoned shopping mall located just outside of Cleveland Ohio in the small quiet town of Richmond Heights. It was once a bustling and thriving American mall that was built in 1966 and was known for being one of the first enclosed malls in the entire country. Richmond Mall had the usual staple anchor stores of JCPenney, Sears, Higbee's, as well as a movie theater. Other stores in the mall included Victoria's Secret, Bath & Body Works, and a GameStop, but these too had been affected by the overall decline in retail, staying consistent with the trend of most American malls.
Unfortunately in the 2000s the malls popularity began to decline and one by one, each store turned out their lights. Although its a mere shadow of its former self, with deserted stores desolate corridors, an empty food court, and a vacant movie theater, we could still feel the energy of the crowds of people that once gathered here to shop and pass time.
As dying malls continue to pop up all over the county, it’ll be interesting to see how many of them will eventually become abandoned. With the ever increasing number of online shopping hubs, such as Amazon, in addition to the growing number of one stop shop stores, such as Walmart, you can pretty much count on many of them closing their doors for good in the near future.
